About the NYCNECT Program

The New York City Nursing Education Consortium in Technology (NYCNECT) is a 5-year (2010-2015) faculty-staff development program funded through HRSA’s Faculty Development: Integrated Technology into Nursing Education and Practice Initiative. Led by Dr. Donna Nickitas, Project Director and Mr. Shawn McGinniss, Project Manager, NYCNECT has built a team of expert educators, champions of innovation, and nationally-renowned speakers to engage our colleagues in developing competencies in innovative pedagogy and instruction using simulation, informatics/Health IT, telehealth, and other health care and educational technologies.

NYCNECT trainees participate in hands-on workshops and complete team-based project learning experiences over an academic year, developing expertise to serve as “Transformers” at their home institutions and champion the use of health care and educational technologies to improve student learning outcomes in their programs. By developing a consortium of faculty and education professionals, NYCNECT aims to strengthen health professions education through the application of innovative instruction and learner-centered uses of technology.

By increasing faculty and staff expertise in the use of simulation, informatics, and telehealth, NYCNECT spurs the development of skills and knowledge needed to prepare students for 21st century health care practice, helping to increase the quality of care provided and reduce health disparities in under-served populations through the training of a highly skilled, culturally competent health care workforce.
